DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc., announced it is voluntarily recalling the ASR™ XL Acetabular System and DePuy ASR™ Hip Resurfacing System used in hip replacement surgery due to the number of patients who required a second hip replacement procedure, called a revision surgery. The recall concerns only for patients with the mentioned ASR prostheses. The official DePuy website reported the following (http://asrrecall.depuy.com/node/20421):

ASR™ Hip Recall Guide
DePuy Orthopaedics is issuing a voluntary recall of its ASR™ XL Acetabular Hip System and DePuy ASR™ Hip Resurfacing System. This recall means additional testing and monitoring may be necessary. These systems first became available in July 2003. If you had your hip surgery prior to July 2003, the hip you received is not subject to this recall.

Within the ANCA-Clinic this type of resurfacing prosthesis is only used by a small group of patients. All ANCA patients whom this concerns, have been informed in written and by telephone and have been invited for additional monitoring and testing. If on this moment you haven't been contacted by us personally, you do not fall under this recall group, and you do not need to undertake any action.
